I have been a Mathematics Teacher in a number of different secondary schools across Liverpool.
Often times, Mathematics becomes difficult when too many processes and methods are shown to pupils and this can cause confusion and mix ups with methodologies and finding the correct answers. I find the method that the student prefers and understands and stick with it, to produce confidence and correct answers
I will go through the most easily remembered methodology for each GCSE topics with the pupil.
I write these easily remembered methods in a handout for them to take home and practice.
I will provide a practice question booklet for them to practice their methodologies and questions on.
In a 1 hour lesson:
We will cover up to 3 different GCSE questions and work on practicing the methodology and refinement of that practice.
1.) Methodology will be given in Booklet 1
2.) Practice questions will be given in Booklet 2
The books are the responsibility of the pupil (with a cost of £5 for both books)
After approximately 10 lessons the pupil should be at a stage where they can confidently approach practice papers and will likely succeed in attaining their target grades at GCSE.
I have experience working with SEN and students with English as additional Language. (Taking time and going at their pace)
