I am a maths and computer science graduate, currently doing my masters in bioinformatics and genomics.
Learning the foundations of any subject is what the key to effective learning is. This is where the hard work is done, and where you’re rewarded for your efforts. Information, however, cannot be simply bombarded at a student hoping it’ll stick. I have always found examples on top of examples being the best way to learn. For this reason they will be a big part of my tutoring lessons. I also find that giving students real world examples helps them fight the disassociation that students feel when they’re hit with pages of numbers and letters. This also, although is not the goal, can give them insight into future fields that they might want to venture into. Algebra, for example, can be made to feel second nature using real world examples. This method will also be littered throughout my tutoring lessons.
