Having worked both in the field and in the classroom I draw on real life context to make my lessons applicable to future careers.
With a BSc & MSc in Zoology from the University of Exeter I have had the opportunity to work in Europe, Africa & Asia and having previously worked in America on research projects. With previous professional experience as a lecturer, NGO founder and ecologist, I have a lot of experience to draw from, and a lot of knowledge of the sectors within environmental science.
My research interests include, Environmental Science, Conservation, marine biology, specifically Orca’s and their conservation & captivity concerns, Cape Giraffe thermoregulation, and my most specialised topic; the illegal wildlife trade.
With all incorporating conservation, the environment, and the socio-economic issues associated.
My lesson structure will consist of a module outline, key learning objectives and a learning model based on experience, research and real life application.
With a 1:1 structure I want students to feel enthused & empowered, taking control of their learning and being able to tell me what they want to learn about. Bringing new news articles to each lesson relevant to the subject where we can start with an ice breaking discussion, concluding with outside readings for the student to take away.
To me knowledge is power, and to be able to help shape that power of tomorrow especially within a subject such as environmental science, it is now more prevalent than ever to invigorate new bioscientists.
I pride myself on creating passion within learning and that passion can then lead to action.
