In my beginner lessons I will first introduce the student to the 2 phonetic scripts of the language, Hiragana and Katakana, teaching them how to write each character and ways of remembering them such as mnemonics.
Once the student is familiar with these scripts I will introduce basic nouns, verbs and numbers and how to combine these into sentences. While doing this I will slowly introduce Kanji (Chinese characters) and how to write and pronounce them. Once the student is comfortable with forming simple sentences I will teach them how to use different tenses and other simple grammatical forms in formal and informal speech.

My lower level lessons will delve into more complex grammatical structures such as noun counters, volitional form, conditional forms and verb nominalization. Along with this the students grasp of vocabulary and Kanji will increase as I gradually introduce new characters and words into my lessons.
At this level I will also introduce pitch accent to my students and ways to improve their pronounciation and intonation.

With experience as a one-to-one classroom assistant, I am skilled at delivering simple and eloquent explanations to children of varying ages.

I am confident with teaching adults as well due to experience giving technical support to teachers during lockdown as a digital ambassador.

I will conduct my lessons online using zoom/teams, using self-made resources including visual aids and examples. Although I have set out a rough syllabus for my lessons, I am open to flexibility to better fit the needs of my students. I would love to help my students with learning slang and specific vocabulary for topics they are interested in. I am also interested in Japanese dialects and would be willing to teach the basics of different Japanese dialects if this was of interest to the student.
