My lessons consist of developing understanding of the N5 English course as a whole, structuring a personalised study plan for extra learning, and familiarising students with the types of questions that will be asked throughout the course.
N5 English consists of Reading and Understanding for Evaluation (RUAE), Scottish Set Text (Poetry) and Critical Reading. There is a portfolio (discursive or creative) that is worth 30% of the final grade. This is done in class but can also be modified outwith school. There is also a performance-spoken language assessment which involves talking to peers in a classroom environment.
When the course is outlined, I can identify the parts that students struggle with through their work and thorough discussions. Then, these areas can be explored and worked on over time.
My experience in N5 English involved an A in the prelim and an A in the final exam.
The course involves a lot of memorising and understanding of the questions and language used, which can easily be achieved. My lessons go into effective memorising methods, topics which the student struggles with and how to improve as a whole. This will allow for maximised learning.
My lessons involve differing content for each person because everyone has different preferences, levels and needs. I aim to go over the whole course, but if the student only requires support in one area, that is also fine.
I am a student so my hours may not be ideal for those who require more support. I can do for 1/2 hours after school and on weekends all except Sundays.
