With experience in teaching one-on-one and in small groups, I take a flexible approach in suiting my tutoring to my pupil’s needs. No two pupils are the same and therefore my tutoring is personalised to suit how the pupil learns the best, whilst not being overwhelmed or stressed.
In my teaching, I like to first establish what the pupil knows on a topic before looking at work sheets together and exam-style questions to see how we can translate knowledge into tackling an exam question.
For example, if the pupil was studying A Christmas Carol, we would look at the novel through looking at characters, setting, the use of language etc, before writing out bullet points to answer an exam question.
If we were looking at a poem, we would look at form and structure, context and language choice, before annotating a poem together.

Whilst I will always ensure my pupils are exam-ready, I do not like setting specific targets lesson-by-lesson for pupils, but rather focus on progress made in each lesson by providing post-lesson feedback notes. If a pupil feels more confident and versed in a topic at the end of the lesson versus the start, then it was a lesson worth doing.
Overall, I am confident that my lessons can help pupils raise their confidence and their grades. I tailor each lesson to each pupil - my lessons can focus on content or exam questions, or my typical combination of both. It is entirely up to the pupil or the pupil’s parents but no matter what, I am committed to helping people learn!
