In lessons we will prioritise the aspects of maths which you struggle with the most. If there are a bunch of topics you need help with, this is okay. We work out in order which topics you are least to most confident with and focus on topics accordingly. I will go through a few questions to begin with, using your input where you feel you can. Then I will let you try and go through some questions of your own and see where you struggle or get confused. I remember revising for my a levels with my teacher Mr Davis, who I can honestly say was the main reason I got an A at GCSE and a B at A Level. He would always say “Mikey, you’re making too many silly mistakes” and that stayed in my head forever. 99% of the times we get maths questions wrong it is just that, a silly mistake. A hint we have missed within the question, a simple miscalculation in our heads or mistyping on our calculators, or just simply forgetting a step. Knowing this, I entirely believe every single person on this planet has it in them to be amazing at maths. It just takes practice, repetition, focus and most importantly patience. It’s easy to get frustrated when things are so hard to remember and understand, but if we’re patient with ourselves, over time, with practice, it all starts to make sense. In my opinion that just takes the right teacher, and hopefully I can be that.
