Creative ways to learn through art such as through history (the types of art and artists) or modern day art, colours patterns and more. Using the child’s interests to spark interest in the child and make the learning experience more enticing for them, e.g using their favourite show and characters to help them learn ‘what colour’ they are or ‘what food they like to/would like to eat’.
Creating a welcoming environment to something that can be seen as intimidating to the child and assuring them that they can learn and have the ability to learn the language even if they do not believe they can.
Giving the child activities to do in between tutor sessions, watching their favourite film in English to see what they can pick up from the vocabulary, drawing and labelling a picture or writing a short story about what they saw on a trip out e.g a walk or trip to the supermarket (dependant on the child’s level of fluency).
Using my own ways of learning languages to be able to more efficiently teach the child English such as through flash cards and lots of questions.
Making sure that the child understands what it is that I am teaching them and checking up on them throughout the session, using active recall at the end of the lesson to ensure that they have been listening and will know what to remember for the lessons to come and for their own knowledge.
I hope that I can provide the correct environment for your child.
