English language is one of the global media of information sharing and it's relevance to all spheres of human endeavors cannot be over emphasized.
As such, it's teaching and learning, especially in an ESL environment requires methods that are learners focused, a learning environment where resources are deployed to satisfy the needs of learners.
I have been in the business of teaching English language to high school and tertiary education students for over 10 cumulative years. My pedagogical approach has been the identification of individual student needs and do everything at my disposal to help such student overcome his/her learning difficulties. I provide a great deal of support to students and challenge them to be responsive to lessons very well. However, in doing this, I respect the existence of individual differences. Hence, each child is only helped to learn at suitable pace.
I also incorporate real life situation into my teaching because it has been identified in research that learners tend to understand instructions that move from concrete to abstract and known to unknown. This stimulates and sustains learners attention as examples are taken from what they relate and interact with on a daily basis. For example, 'snow falls during winter' is not a good example to teach noun for students residing in Asia. The use of 'sand' and it's usefulness to the Asians will be more appropriate. For instance, 'blocks are made from sands'.
Without mincing words, learning English language is fun when the right person and approach are deployed!
