As a beginner in Tutoring I would only see it fit to ensure transparency and a full run down of what a student requires, what their goals and aims are as well as what areas of Maths they require study in. It would be important for such things to be set out for me to come to the student with a plan of action and prospectus of breakdowns with an example session to see how they feel about going further. While I do not have any tutoring experience, I am a patient individual who enjoys teaching family and friends and I believe tutoring would be a rewarding job.
I understand that each student has their own way of learning which is why I would take a flexible approach with my teaching. For example, if the student is struggling to understand visual methods and aids I will attempt another method or a different way of explaining. I would strive to get background on potential students and evaluate how to tailor my teaching depending on the individual student and their level of study.
Mathematically, I have extensive experience. I achieved highly in my mathematics GCSE and A-levels, I gained a FSMQ qualification during GCSE's as well. Maths has also been a regular topic touched upon during my degree in computer science and physics where I covered modules such as Thermodynamics, Algebra, Further Algebra, Mathematical physics, Optics and more.
My lessons will strive to be in depth as much as possible, I will attempt to ensure full understanding of processes and even where possible a rudimentary coverage of the why and the how of it all perhaps in first principals where applicable and alternative solutions. Often when studying Maths myself I would struggle with progress due to getting stuck on reused processes or simply notation and meaning of differences of notation as to how and why making the process of practice much harder to follow. I see it as important to grasp concepts fully for easier recall and work when approaching things like exams.
