Over the course of my career and personal life, I have had the opportunity to meet some incredible people from different cultures and different religions. In the early years of meeting people from different walks of life, I began to develop a passion for helping people understand and develop. Whether it be through language or activity, I always found myself trying to learn a task so that one day I would be able to share that information with someone who needs it. This process began my career in people.
My career started off in lifeguarding. The idea of protecting people in the pools and explaining safety instructions to them really resonated with me. From that position I began learning more about the water. I became a swimming instructor for children, both mainstream and with special needs. After teaching people to learn how to swim, I started to learn scuba diving. I followed my passion of teaching and became a scuba diving instructor and first aid instructor. My passion for helping people became endless.
I started to then study fitness for personal training and sports therapy. I understood that people need help in all forms of life, not just in the water. My experience in fitness led me to working with of the world’s leading sports centres such as the ICC Cricket Academy. Technically, you could say I was coach, but I was really much more than that. I started to study NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) with the aim of becoming a certified life coach.
This journey is what has led me to study Psychology. I understand that there are some forms of support that my experience and certificates don’t reach. My passion in people is show in my passion for studying psychology. I hope to continue to study after the bachelor’s degree and specialize in healthy psychology (MSc). I feel that this is the correct route for me as the world becomes a more challenging place for people’s health.
My interest in this application is because I believe it fits well with my past experience and future goals with psychology. I have always been comfortable with developing and initiating programs for clients, whether in fitness or life coaching. My personal skills from work experience are communication, team leadership, program development, public speaking, and customer service (client wellbeing). I believe that every person has their own journey and I always try my best to help them achieve their goals.
