I find that the best way to learn maths is to practice! I would start off the lesson with talking about their past week to make sure that they are comfortable and ready to learn. Then it is time to practice.

How I like to tutor is to give a handful of practice questions where the first few we go over together, and then I encourage the student to do them by themselves. Any queries they have I am here to answer, and help them understand what they did wrong and how to not make the same mistake again. I would do the online lessons over zoom and have an engaging presentation ready with all the necessary materials. The content of the lessons is what the student needs most help with, or if in a previous lesson they tell me they want to work on something/I notice they need to work on a something specific that will be the focus of the next lesson.

I want the student to feel comfortable around me to ask as many questions possible, as no questions are stupid! I would encourage that throughout the lesson the student writes down the question and physically solve it instead of in their head, as thats when most silly mistakes are made. I will also write down how to solve the questions so they will not be lost. At the end of each lesson I would want to do a mini fun quiz, just to truly test their knowledge and see if there is anything else I should teach them in this subject.

If I see that the student prefers to learn a certain way, I can adjust to their needs! If they prefer not to do the mini test as it stresses them out, then we will not do it. If the students attention seems to be running off, then I can incorporate math games to make them more engaged. Math can be exhausting, which is why if they feel they need a break at any point, we can take a 3 minute break and just talk, and then refocus our attention on the maths. I am open to new fun and creative ways to teach, and want to hear feedback from my students as to what works best for them.

I recently had the opportunity to learn from a math teacher who was truly exceptional. they had a gift for explaining complex concepts in a way that was easy to understand. They were always willing to help and took the time to ensure that every student in the class was able to grasp the material. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone looking to improve their math skills.

I absolutely hated maths before I had Mia as a tutor. But after a few months of solid work we have managed to improve both my skills and opinions toward the subject. Would highly reccomend.
