Well, if I am conducting the lesson for the first time and the student has been studying English language before as well, I usually find it relevant to assess my new student’s English language comprehension.
My lessons overall, whether it is one-on-one tutoring or the english class I’m giving, start with a fun warm up which subtly flows into checking homework and starting a new unit.
Teaching is not always teaching, and teaching is not always learning. So I try to excite and motivate my students through different activities and games throughout the lesson. Once I see that they are bored or tired, or feeling sick I try to find a way to cheer them up or help them out.
To make it more student-centered I use guided-discovery method thorough connecting our new grammar (or whatever skill) with previous material which was successfully learnt, and I also attempt to practise less TTT.
For a subtle take-home message, we wrap up our lesson with a fun activity.
