I used to work with adults who had learning disabilities and part of my remit was to teach them life skills that could benefit them to be more independent, this was a challenge as it was difficult for them to understand at times what was being asked of them. To rectify and achieve good results I found that breaking down tasks into step by step sequences helped them a lot also by simplifying the way I explained the task also helped. To further the positive response to each task I provided the individual steps using pictures to enhance their understanding.
I will use a similar method adapted to fit in with my clients, giving examples on how to use the English language in everyday situations. I will also be using simple explanations in how the written word works for example what a full stop is and the difference between that and a comer.
I am very patient and have the ability to adapt to different clients needs, I will also try to make learning fun as I believe the best way to learn is through having fun. I will also require my students to undertake some homework so that I can gage their progress or see what further development is needed for them to fully understand the task set out.
There will be no time pressure put onto my students as everyone learns at different paces and I’m always open to questions about the topics that are covered in lessons
