During my undergraduate degree, I have learnt a wide range of teaching techniques from professionals in the music industry, as well as developed my own through 15 years of practice and performances. This has allowed me to create a unique and flexible teaching method that can adapt to the student’s individual needs and desires, allowing them to be in control of the lessons whilst learning valuable techniques.
We will work on building the foundations of a great technique that will last throughout your musical journey. This may include breathing, finger dexterity and general musicianship. Whilst developing these techniques, we will apply them to a wide range of repertoire that can consist of modern, classical, musical theatre or orchestral music, alongside music for exams.
As well as technical development, we will explore techniques to make a piece of music into a performance by looking at the piece from an academic and emotional point of view, adding depth to the piece and bringing the music alive.
Finally, we will look at a variety of methods of how to make playing the flute always enjoyable; spanning different practice methods, ways to keep motivated and performance strategies to keep calm on stage and in exams.
Having had experience in orchestral and chamber settings, I can also assist with how to prepare the music and solos for the rehearsals as well as common etiquette within these environments.
I am an approachable and enthusiastic musician and like to build a relaxed environment within the lessons, along with a sense of drive and determination to succeed. I believe a combination of these qualities within the lesson can help the student to thrive and achieve their goals.
