I find that using visual aids really helps to cement difficult concepts into a students long term memory as well as audio so for example for the phrase "my name is..." there might be a picture of an apple next to it to remind or prompt students of the pronunciation of the phrase in French, "je m'appele..." I also like to work with reward based tasks to keep morale high during lessons which can be difficult in online lessons but that only means getting more creative with the types of rewards offered, so it might be that a student gets to decide which topic for next lesson, which would be something more applicable to their own specific lives, such as learning about horse riding in French if that is one of their hobbies. This also leads on to a further aspect of my lessons which is that we will learn to discuss certain topics in its entirety before learning an abundance of vocabulary so that students can build full sentences first which will build their confidence level. So if the topic is 'the weather' they will learn to ay 'it is very cold today and am upset because I really enjoy the warmth of summer' so that their French becomes conversational. It is also important that students are hearing French as often as possible so the lesson would be conducted in complete French and only when completely necessary would an English translation be offered.
