Megan in a nutshell
From trial and error from my studies, I've found creating visual representations of what I'm learning a great way of ensuring I can process and retain that freshly taught information. Whether that is through mind-mapping, creating bright and creative revision posters, organising and colour-coding my notes, I love to find ways that will make it eye-catching for when I return to my notes at a later...
From trial and error from my studies, I've found creating visual representations of what I'm learning a great way of ensuring I can process and retain that freshly taught information. Whether that is through mind-mapping, creating bright and creative revision posters, organising and colour-coding my notes, I love to find ways that will make it eye-catching for when I return to my notes at a later date that won't provide me too much effort for me to re-read to understand.

Example Tutoring Session:
I will start each lesson by going through what topics we will be covering and the plan for that session.
Each lesson will start with a quick self-assessment from the student's perspective on what they already know about the topic, rating themselves on how confident they are feeling... This will be completed again at the end of the lesson to reflect.
Generally, I will then begin to go through the taught content at a pace suited for each student. Once I've completed the taught section of the session we will then use various materials, preferably the textbooks from the student's school exam board, and go through creating revision materials that are preferred by the student, ensuring that when exam season comes around they will have the skills needed to be self-sufficient in their studies.
Instead of finishing the session with a mini-assessment, I will challenge the student to teach me, using their own resources, to help verbalise what we went through. This role play may seem a little silly to the student at first but it challenges them to think about what we've gone through that day, and explain it in a way that may help them understand the content for themselves.
We will then have an overview of the content for that day to see how well they got on with their mini lesson and finish up with another self-assessment again going through trying to name the contents we looked at during that lesson and ranking their confidence on the subject. Once the student has completed this, we will compare the one they filled out to start off with and see whether we need to look over anything from the students perspective.
