Hi! I have recently graduated with a Law degree from Durham University. I achieved eight 7-9's at GCSE and three A*s at A Level! I have always loved learning and teaching others, I tutored my younger brother in both English and Maths all the way up to GCSE level.
To enhance learning, it is vital to amend and adapt to each learners requirements - so it is hard to say one specific format that I will follow in teaching. However, I am able to outline core themes that each lesson will revolve around.
- Exam Papers: Learning directly from previous exam questions helps learners bridge their knowledge with exam technique. This could look something like writing a timed answer at the end of a lesson; starting a lesson with an exam question and then spending the lesson learning both knowledge and technique, then revisiting the question at the end of the lesson. I find this helps instil confidence in learners which is absolutely crucial! I want you or your young person to walk away from every lesson feeling confident in their potential.
- Specifications: Establishing the boundaries of a course is key to performing well in an exam. Learning directly from specifications is what allowed me to achieve three A*s at A Level. Typically, first lessons will be spent breaking down the specification so that learners can grasp a firm understanding of their course, I want them to know exactly what is expected of them by exam boards. Demystifying the specification and expectations from exam boards allows learners to feel in control of their education and helps to remove some of the anxiety of exams.
- Dynamic range of materials: No one learner is the same. Some people learn visually, others audibly and some thrive from being consistently challenged and questioned. My ethos relies on meeting each learners individual needs and tailoring the way I teach to them. Teaching is not one-size-fits-all, it requires adaptation and compromise. Therefore, the way I teach may range from powerpoint materials, Q&As, using past papers as the lesson structure or even a conversational style of teaching! Whatever you need I can deliver!
