I tailor lessons to the student's needs, but generally the first lesson will be about determining the student's overall level and confidence. I will ask them to complete a mock exam and from there, I can determine which areas need improvement. I will also ask for notes / recommendations from the student's teacher(s) regarding areas for improvement.

Following on from this, I will use each lesson to focus on a specific topic (we may need multiple lessons for one topic if there is a lot to cover). I will start by explaining the methodology and running through a few examples, before asking the student to have a go themselves. The majority of the lesson will be practical - I expect the student to complete questions and we go through them together, however if they are particularly struggling I am happy to demonstrate an alternative method / explanation until the student understands and feels confident answering the questions correctly.
I also welcome feedback from the student and parent in regards to my teaching style, and if there is a method of teaching the student responds more positively to, I am more than happy to accommodate. I am also happy to accommodate for various learning needs, although I must disclose I do not have any professional experience with SEN students.
In the run-up to exam season, I will spend a few lessons (depending on the needs of the student) completing past papers together and then going through the mark schemes in detail. I make a particular effort here to ensure the student understands where they are missing marks, and how to improve the number of marks they achieve. With every mock-exam the majority of students will improve, and I aim to complete this process until the student is confident enough in their ability to achieve the grades they deserve.
Overall, I approach each lesson with a calm, positive attitude which celebrates each achievement and reframes mistakes into a positive learning experience.
