I am currently studying Biomedical science at University and am looking to apply my knowledge base to teaching. Whilst doing my A levels, i tutored many of the younger years in biology and chemistry, and ran a Biology help clinic after school and at lunchtimes.

As mentioned, I currently studying Biomedical science at the University of Brighton, a degree which requires a deep knowledge of human biology and its systems. It is because of this degree, and the preparatory Biology A level, that i am able to provide high level insights into the GCSE course, helping students to unlock the higher 8/9 grades.

As someone who is neurodivergent, i struggled quite a bit in school, and therefore had to come up with my own methods for remembering information and understanding difficult topics. I feel because of this, i am adaptable in my teaching style, and can therefore cater the information to the students’ respective knowledge bases.

i find when in a tutoring session, it is very easy to get off task. To alleviate these types of distractions i normally dedicate a quick 5 minutes before the tutoring hour begins where any topics from the previous week can be discussed, meaning the entire hour of the session can be focused on the work. This has worked in previous tutoring circumstances however i understand it won’t be in others.

Finally, GCSEs are a very stressful time- and Biology is a difficult subject! so i find it important to acknowledge and reward any achievements made by either a fun quiz or simply verbal praise! I find creating a positive attitude to learning encourages students to put more effort into their studies, which always pays off in the long run.
