I am a first year university student who lived in Japan and received a Japanese education until the age of 15. I then moved to the UK and obtained a 9 in GCSE and an A* in A-level Japanese. I have experience in A-level tutoring in addition to teaching English to Japanese speakers.
Lessons will start with a recap of the previous lesson, before moving on to that day's focus.
For beginners, Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji and basic vocabulary can be taught in a way similar to how it is taught in Japanese elementary schools.
For students looking for GCSE or A-level Japanese tutoring, examples of lesson content includes,
for GCSE students:
- basic Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji as well as sentence types
- essay writing practice and support
- mock interviews in Japanese (speaking, listening)
for A-level students:
- analysis of chosen film and/or literature
- advanced sentence types, phrases and Kanji
The content and format of the lessons are adaptable, with more emphasis on timed exam practice and focus on weaker areas closer to exams. I am also happy to mark essays if required.
Lessons can be delivered in Japanese or English (or both!) depending on the student's preference and needs. The content of my lessons are tailored towards the student's ability; however, I look to emphasise on the cultural aspects as well as the language at all levels to allow deeper understanding of Japan as a country. I hope to deliver interesting and memorable lessons through highly interactive teaching.
