I am a British Born Chinese with much experience in teaching within Higher Education. I have had experience in teaching international students on a pre-sessional course and partially within the foundation course at the University of Cumbria too. Additionally, I have also worked at Lancaster University within the International Study Centre as an Academic Tutor within the English department. I was involved in teaching on the pre-sessional summer crash course - PELP (Pre-Sessional English Language). During the official University terms, I worked with various level groups; ELP (English Language Preparation) and foundation year. I was involved in planning and delivering sessions, as well as covering both informal and formal assessments too.
Having the privilege and opportunity to teach at both the University of Cumbria and Lancaster has allowed me to be able to teach, equip, empower and inform students with both language and study skills. I do this by breaking down main, core ideas and deliver the essential points, whilst “filling in the gaps” for those of lower ability. I create a healthy work ethic and environment for them to not only thrive in but to also think autonomously and take ownership of their own learning journey. My methods and approaches are created in such a way, as to enable students under my care, to meet their goals and go above and beyond their own expectations. I have a finesse in helping each and every student to tap and hone into their true potential by meeting them where they are at and encouraging them with their existing capabilities.
