I have always had a passion for geography, and understanding how the world works; this was instilled in me from a young age through my geography teacher. Before this point i wasn't that keen on geography, but having a teacher that could ignite the ambition and imagination within me really did open my eyes, and eventually led me to studying it at the higher academic level. Throughout my time in education, both in primary, secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate I have a good understanding of what makes a good teacher, from how the syllabus is taught to the activities we do and how to share the passion and ambition they have of the subject to students. Ive been able to develop my own set of teaching skills through the scouting association, developing and delivering a curriculum for ages 8-14 and understanding that i may need to be delivering this at different levels of capability and ability; being able to create and deliver teaching plans that are accessible has been crucial and seeing them being implemented is fulfilling.
My knowledge mainly covers natural disasters, physical geography, globalisation, government and policies, hazard analysis, glaciology, coasts, UK landscapes, drone imagery, GIS, fieldwork in the UK and Switzerland and report writing/long format questions.
I have completed two dissertations, one on the changes to coastal landforms in the UK, and another on Bushfire causes and management in Australia, so i understand what is important to include in coursework and how to cut that word count down!
