Coming from a strong academic background in both the British and American education systems I believe I can harness the best of both in order to deliver at a high level with great outcomes. To me the most important thing is a love of the subject, and if you don't have that at the start, the goal is to achieve it by the end. Whilst of course rigorous training to answer exam questions and specific exam preparation has its importance and place (namely in leading up to exam season) I think more general discussion of texts, essays, and ideas build the important foundational base from which future exams can be attacked with greater dexterity and adaptability.
I have just finished my masters programme at The University Of Edinburgh studying history with a political, and international, focus. Through my time at Edinburgh I was an active participant in student engagement and engagement with staff in order to improve delivery. Additionally I spent my final year working in a mix of primary and secondary schools helping pupils with after school work and engagement.
I structure my tutoring by looking at the initial meetings to setting goals; areas where there is a need to focus and gain more understanding, and also to familiarise myself with the curriculum of the potential student in order to create a tailored experience moving forward. From then I can create a personalised plan with a focus on engagement with their future school work, but also going over previous work reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses.
