My tutoring experience began when I was an A-Level student. I would offer free tutoring sessions to my peers as part of an initiative led by my English Department. This initial experience emboldened my confidence and ability to deliver articulate, personalised tutoring sessions.
I continued this throughout my A-Levels, and as I transitioned to University I began tutoring GCSE/A-Level students of personal family friends, offering online sessions whilst at University and then in-person while at home over the holidays. I have kept this up throughout the duration of my degree, having now tutored a wide-range of students, and through doing so have accrued a wealth of knowledge in how to deliver personalised lessons and spark enthusiasm.
I firmly believe that every student is an individual who learns in unique ways. Once that fact is properly observed, and young students are then given the proper tools, then great learning takes place. This is where my passion lies for private tutoring, as I believe that if properly utilised it is the perfect environment to help a student find those tools that work best for them.
In my lessons I like to take a keen focus on offering initial reflection on the text we'll be studying. This gives students the opportunity to essentially 'find their voice', and build their own unique perspective on the work, which I always find helps spark enthusiasm.
Following this, I like to spend lesson time focusing mainly on the three categories of: Close-language Analysis, Character Analysis, and Theme Discussion.
The order will vary along with the student's unique needs, skills, and level of study. Of course with higher levels of study time will be made for more advanced levels of approach, such as: Contextual Discussion, Secondary Readings/Critics, and so forth.
My lesson plans consist of personally developed templates and work sheets which I am happy to revise based on the student's needs.
