Having experienced the high-level education of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, I believe I have learnt how to adapt to each of my students, understanding that each of them have different needs, both in terms of technique, and overall musical approach.
I am confident that my teaching experience, skills and passion on music are a perfect match for your school.
I would bring to the school a broad range of skills and experience including:
• To use music to explore, play, develop, share, learn and communicate with each other. By freely exploring music, we begin to naturally develop skills we need to further our musical ability, rather than focusing on skills before we play. Music is an interactive, primarily non-verbal intervention, drawing on the qualities of music to help people communicate. It offers children and young people a way to express themselves, to become aware of themselves and to interact more easily with others. It also provides a safe environment in which to express and explore feelings and experiences, using music as a powerful, emotional medium. Playing music together with another person, or within a small group of people, can be fun and satisfying. The ability to listen and respond to music is universal and may remain unimpaired by illness, injury or disability.
• A creative and fun teaching method; For beginners I incorporate singing and rhythm exercises, as well as memory games to learn the notes.
• A wide knowledge of repertoire; I try to mix solo pieces with four hands and duo works. I believe playing chamber music is enriching and inspiring for the student.
• I am fully aware of the ABRSM exam system. However, I am not wedded to the graded approach- it doesn’t necessarily suit all students.
• By my past experience in outreach projects, I have learnt how to adapt to different types of work processes, depending on the project and who is involved.
