Soon graduating from The University of Manchester, majoring in Japanese Studies. I have studied Japan and Japanese top to bottom, from its history, society and economy, to pop culture, literature and religion, so as long as you have some passion for Japan, you can be sure that my lessons will contain something that will take your interest, and enable you to learn and progress in an enjoyable and positive way. As I've also taken a year abroad in Japan, I can ensure you that I have a firm grasp on realistic Japanese, as well as how communication works in Japan, and it's relevance to those learning Japanese as a second language.
My aim in lessons is to introduce Japanese language concepts to you in a way you find intriguing, and that makes you want to be able to actually use them, rather than just memorize them. Passing a test or remembering certain words is not the only goal. Instead, you will be able to use Japanese in a way meaningful to you: have conversations with new friends, understand the lyrics to your favourite music, or watch anime and read manga in the original language, without the loss of meaning that occasionally comes along with translation.
From prior students, and peers, I have been told that they appreciate the way I explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them personally, and that they like that they feel like we are learning together, rather than being taught. I believe that Japanese is a language you can never fully master, as there will always be more to know, and that the more mistakes you make, the faster you can improve.
There won't always be long powerpoints full of information you'll never need, or repetition of sentences from a textbook that aren't used in real conversation in Japan. Instead, there will be content tailored to your wants and needs, that helps you realise not only your potential, but your love for the language and culture of Japan. Whether you're at the stage where you're still unsure what textbook to buy, or you're already able to have conversations in Japanese, I'll be sure to show you something new about the language in an enjoyable way.
