I have a 1st class degree in Neuroscience and Psychology and I am currently studying a Neuroscience MSc at UCL. I have had 1 years tutoring experience in a variety of subjects from music theory and instrument tutoring to Biology and Psychology GCSE and A-level. Due to much of this being during the pandemic it has been integral to ensure that online tutoring meets the same standard as in-person, and it is something I am confident I have achieved.

My lesson methodology is in a conversational style. If the student can talk confidently and present/teach what they know then they will learn faster (The Protégé Effect), this helps to deepen their actual semantic understanding of subject rather than just memorisation. This also gives me a chance to discover what best method suits the student to facilitate understanding. Not to mention that lessons where actual discussions can be made makes for a much more interesting lesson for both me and the student!

I believe that appreciation of modern knowledge of 'learning cognition' is needed to enable the most efficient tutoring of any subject. Test and re-test, although it may be a tad daunting, is proven to be the most efficient method for learning, so this will be a reoccurring theme in my lessons. This conveniently crosses over with exam technique which is another extremely vital skill at GCSE and A-level.

By both making use of what is known about human cognition and tailoring lesson styles to the individual we can work together to really achieve the grades the student deserves.
