I first started helping other students during my master's degree when I volunteered as a student academic assistant. During this role I helped many students in similar subject areas increase their knowledge and understanding and answer any specific questions they had. In my experience, the best way to do this is to first establish what the student does understand and the skills they are good at, before moving on to where they are experiencing difficulties or have specific questions. Economics and Business cover a wide range of topics, so it is important to set specific goals for each lesson in order to stay on track and make sure the student gets the most out of the experience.
The outline for each lesson will be as follows;
-Figure out what the goal is for the lesson
-Take a deeper look into the subject area and figure out what the student does and doesn't understand.
-Apply real world examples to the areas of improvement to aid the student's learning.
-Answer any specific questions the student has on their chosen subject area.
It is important that the lessons are engaging and fun, and also that the students can see the connection to the real world, this way learning becomes less of a task and more of an enjoyable experience!
