My experience revolves mainly around going through already existing classroom material with my students and making sure they understand all of it. When teaching a language, I try to spend as much time as possible speaking it, and only speak English when translating something or explaining grammatical rules. In this way, students can both memorise the things they have already learned, while always discovering new ways to express themselves through conversation. I can also prepare brand new lessons.
I strongly believe that lasting knowledge is not acquired through simple repetition and memorisation, but instead by developing a personal interest and relationship to the studied subject. Hence, in my lessons, I try to learn more about my students and their interests, in order to cater my teaching to what is personally important to them, while still focusing mainly on achieving the goals that their class or employers have set out. I understand many of the difficulties people might have with all of the subjects I teach, and I am very patient and happy to explain things in as much detail as needed. Few things bring me as much joy as seeing someone finally understand something they have been struggling with, and be happy about their progress.
I have five years of experience giving hour-long tutoring lessons to bilingual middle school children in France, both in French and in English. The subjects studied included French, Music, English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography and Biology. I've mainly helped them finish all of their homework, study for exams and work on subjects they've had trouble with.
