My name is Maskura Khatun, and I am psychology graduate and a newly Qualified Teacher in mathematics. Training as a teacher has taught me a lot about teaching maths. Including having a comfortable pace of lessons, using various methods and adapting lessons. My favourite way to teach maths is through the mastery approach where students learn to understand maths rather than the procedures.
I aim to ensure my students gain a fluency, so I would give several recourses so there is greater practice. Because in maths, practice makes perfect.
A big part of my lesson is engagement from the student. I dont like my students getting bored or tired. So I always make sure there is enough work to stretch students' abilities but not to overload with work. I also really enjoy using different techniques to teach certain topics depending on the students' likes and dislikes. And so for me, building an excellent relationship with my student is essential.
I try my best to display myself as friendly and warm individual where students feel free to ask questions until they fully understand. I also take suggestions from my students so there is a level of comfort maintained at all times.
Finally, from time to time, I aim to test students' knowledge of certain topics. For example every 2 weeks, there will be an end of topic test. This essentially allows the student and myself to track progress, and cater lessons towards topics that had poor results.
