I teach online over Zoom to allow flexibility for both myself and the student. One of my main principles is to make the sessions as interactive as possible and therefore my teaching method is based on student- led sessions where the student is able to choose what topics to go over and I can then prepare materials in advance to aid them in the session. I am happy to go over topics in the order that a student would encounter them at school and to ensure the student is able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, I give out past papers with questions that cover a range of topics for the student to complete between sessions and then help them pick out areas they can improve on or reteach so they can fully grasp Biology concepts. Over Zoom, I can share worksheets and slides and also allow the student to annotate online worksheets. Biology does not only involve recall but also application of knowledge and thus with this tried and tested method, the student will be able to pick up higher grades.
I have used this similar approach is Peer- Assisted Study Sessions and they have worked incredibly well to ensure the student is able to share and integrate different concepts to provide an answer which are usually to the questions asking for the highest marks.
