Mary Taylor

I am a qualified primary teacher with 20+ years' experience of assessing, advising on and working with pupils from 7 to 16 who have difficulties with maths and / or literacy. I have been tutoring individual pupils since retiring in 2014, and enjoy building a friendly and dynamic relationship with my tutees. I also tutor as a volunteer for a national organisation that aims to bring pupils in school up to expected standard by the end of Y6.

My sessions focus on discovering and filling gaps in knowledge by building the basic concepts needed to progress in maths. I am sensitive to the effect on self-esteem of experiencing difficulties, and work to build on success, with patience and understanding.

I teach using an online platform that allows interaction face to face and chat, and my pupils and I always have a laugh together, and a bit of fun, rather than taking things over seriously. I find this builds the trust and co-operation that leads to successful outcomes.
