I teach in a student led style. Ideally the student will have communicated the level they wish to work at and styles of interest. I am happy to lead this if they are unsure. I have learnt how to best communicate the individual needs to each student from my 15 years as a teacher.
I will start from the basics- checking technique, hand and feet are ok before we move in. Time keeping is something that I will make sure you have a good understanding of. Developing a relationship to a metronome as well as how to play to music.
From here is where we will have to decide what areas you wish to go into. Many if my students wish to do grades is they are unsure. Grades can be a great way to naturally progress your skill set as well as introduce you to new musical styles. If lessons are taking place before A- level age they can actually earn you UCAS points to help towards university.
I am also more than happy to do bespoke classes aimed at learning your favourite songs. I often do lessons breaking down famous drum fills and grooves. Often this might also need a further understanding of drum rudiments (sticking exercises) to be able to execute. Drum rudiments are an important area to at least understand the basics. You will be amazed at how many of your favourite drummers have a high level understanding of this subject.
I look forward to working with you on your journey.
