I aim to use a consistent plan throughout my tutoring, which I have picked up from my experience in the classroom.
I aim to give individualised support throughout the sessions and utilise chunking, scaffolding and motivational techniques learned from my
Psychology degree.
The session outline :
Warm-up (5 minutes): Begin the session with a warm-up activity related to the topic of the day or a quick review of the previous session's material. This helps the student ease into the learning mindset and refresh their memory.
Set Goals and Agenda (5 minutes): Discuss the specific goals for the session and outline the agenda. This gives the student a clear understanding of what to expect and what they will be working on during the session.
Introduction of New Material (20-30 minutes): Introduce the new topic or concept to the student. I use a variety of teaching methods, such as explanations, examples, and visual aids, to ensure a comprehensive understanding.
Interactive Practice (15-20 minutes): I engage the student in interactive exercises and activities to apply the newly learned material. This could involve exercises like comprehension questions, grammar drills, or role-playing conversations.
Individual Practice (10-15 minutes): Assign individual practice tasks to the student. This may include reading passages, writing exercises, or online language exercises. Encourage the student to complete these tasks outside the session.
Review and Feedback (10 minutes): Review the individual practice tasks and provide constructive feedback on the student's performance. Address any questions or difficulties they may have encountered.
We may then discuss any homework that may be set, although this is not an ever present in each session.
