One-on-one lessons mix theory and practice, with supplementary group field trips available to photogenic locations at home and abroad. Each student is given, as a minimum, a sound foundation of photographic fundamentals applicable to all types of image-making. Beyond that, it is up to the student to decide whether they want to focus on the creative, technical or commercial aspects of the craft, and lessons are prepared that are unique to each applicant. A student will be better prepared to work or play as a photographer after six months private lessons than a two year college course – and almost certainly more excited about the possibilities of this field. Modules are available on everything from cameraphone to Dageurrotype photography, film processing and development, digital post-production and equipment choice. Specialisms such as portraiture, weddings, food, architecture, events, street photography, macro and drone imagery are catered for. If it's of interest we can also conduct guides to photographic theory and history, with accompanied trips to museums and galleries.
Zoom sessions are available for all, irrespective of location. However, in-person lessons on location or here in Cheltenham are recommended whenever possible. Students are free to opt into group sessions at locations in central England, or (annually) a field trip to locations such as France, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Scotland, Wales and Iceland.
Beginners often underestimate the specialist nature of each genre of photography, so we offer a free initial consultation to sketch out a bespoke plan to get you educated and enthused about the art and craft of image-making.
