I believe it is important that lessons are fun and engaging and have a level of challenge that is achievable without being threatening. I like to give my students a generous portion of control over the progress of lessons in terms of content as well as pace, while recognising that feedback is very important.
I seek not to be over-reliant on text book learning but find innovative approaches where learning is an outcome rather than a central, obligatory theme to the lesson.
