I have been teaching for over thirty years. The key to my teaching always revolves around the individual student. Each one of us learns in their own unique way. I work with students to always find the path that brings them the most joy and inspires them to continue practicing and understanding that there is joy in the discovery and the musical journey and not just the outcome. I listen to what my students have to say; What music inspires them and can we learn by working with material that is familiar to them? I try to encourage them to always remember why they are studying music and that the gift of music stays with them their whole life.
I am happy to dig deep into technique if the student desires it or simply explore sound and 'simple' chords. I know what is needed to learn to play and will always find a way to match the needs of my students with a clear and focused approach tailored for their specific needs.
In the end I believe that if 'we let the music lead' our lives will be enriched. This drives me to continue teaching and hopefully inspire others to explore the magical world that is music.
