I have experience of teaching students of all different ages and abilities including Special Educational Needs, whether to top up on what they are being taught at school or as an alternative to school, I have also taught students who have had a long gap since studying. I have also mentored several young people throughout my career in business.
One of the reasons I love Maths so much is that there are often several different ways of teaching it, so if a student is struggling to understand a certain way there is often another way to demonstrate it that they find much clearer.
I follow the curriculum for the age group or ability that the student is currently at, tailoring it to their individual needs and am very adaptable at the order in which I teach the various topics as sometimes it is very beneficial to take a break from a certain type of maths and come back to it later. On the other hand if something suddenly clicks with a student it can be advantageous to explore that topic and advance with it. I regularly test the knowledge retained of a student to find any potential weaknesses and am open open to working extra hours if there is a need to catch up.
I have several different resources to hand eg. text books, revision guides, apps and maths cubes as again there can often be certain ways of demonstrating information to students that work better than others.
I get immense pride and satisfaction when my students progress and achieve and am very flexible with hours that I can tutor subject to availability.
