One learns better in the context of application. I focus lessons on real life examples and conversation in the sphere the student desires proficiency. Language is a skill developed and honed by practice and therefore lessons focus on actual communication versus technical exercises.
An over reliance on technical exercises often results in a student losing interest and furthermore struggling to actually apply the language knowledge to every day life, either personally or in their chosen vocation.
Motivation is maintained through lessons by way of both written and verbal conversation, article analysis, written essays and vocabulary additions by way of new words challenges.
Having grown up with a Scottish background and spent my entire professional career in the legal sphere, where communication is key, I have an excellent command of both colloquial and professional English and know that I have the ability to help students not only become competent communicators, but communicators who can clearly, concisely and eloquently relay their chosen message to a variety of audiences.
Too many people lack the ability to communicate effectively in that the message they wish to relay is often lost in too many words, the incorrect choice of words or simply an inability to relay the chosen message properly. My focus therefore is on utilising not only the right words for the job, but also on not using more words than needed to effectively relay the message, thereby helping students grow into the most effective and efficient communicators around, turning you into an asset to any organisation.
