I'd try and assess the areas somebody wants to learn about first, and find out how best they like to learn. I'd then try and explain the concepts involved in a way that they're most happy with. I've frequently shifted scientific disciplines and have had to grasp new concepts rapidly, and I've often found myself developing my own visualizations and associations in order to achieve this. I've met a wide variety of people throughout my career and I'm aware that there are different types of thinking and learning and I try to utilise these. I'd start the lesson with learning what somebody is struggling with, and I'd then try to explain it in the most effective way possible for that person, using analogies if it's effective for them. I try to keep communication as relaxed and informal as possible, as I think learning is most effective in that kind of atmosphere. I'd be happy to go through problems as they crop up and guide somebody through them in the best way I can. Although I've opted for Physics, I also feel that I could tutor in Chemistry and Mathematics. If I can communicate and explain concepts using diagrams and visualisations for learning I'd be happy to do that. Helping somebody understand something in science is greatly rewarding, and I'd also try to emphasise the wonder and mystery of modern physics to increase interest in the area. I should be available Mondays to Wednesdays and can communicate on Microsoft Teams, Skype or WhatsApp.
