At KS3 and GCSE level I speak Italian for 90% of the lesson but tend to use plenty of cognates so students pay careful attention, can easily deduce the meaning of what I am saying and confidently take part in conversations. Over the years I've devised a three step technique to teach Italian grammar in an easy and fun way as well as decalogues to help students with listening, reading, speaking, writing and translation skills.
At KS5 I tend to speak Italian for 100% of the lesson and use plenty of false friends and idiomatic expressions which help students develop a greater understanding of the language. As far as Literature/films are concerned I ask my students to reflect, analyse and research various aspects as well as complete a booklet with specific points covered in lessons. I also encourage them to think outside the box and always be critical thinkers. I love teaching the Italian language and culture and above all I enjoy passing my enthusiasm and knowledge to my students.
