I am a language teacher, very passionated about teaching classes and one to one as tutor.
I undertook my PGCE in Foreign Languages in the academic year at Goldsmiths University where I was trained to place an emphasis on developing students’ oral skills and using target language to deliver challenging and engaging lessons to students of all abilities in two very inspirational schools. It was throughout my PGCE year that I gained increased confidence to become an inspirational teacher of Spanish at KS3 and KS4 and I also supported specific KS5 lessons, by delivering speaking slots to our KS5 students in order to be exceptionally well prepared to undertake their A Level oral examination. I worked as tutor for companies and for students in my country and in the UK.
In the day-to-day delivery of lessons, I encourage students to use the target language with confidence and to participate in an atmosphere highly conducive to learning. As a language learner myself, I am well aware of the challenges and demands of learning a new language and therefore I am able to anticipate areas of difficulty and strategies to overcome them. To this effect, I have developed strong questioning skills, which I use to make students aware of their own learning process and of the way that grammar links across all languages. Moreover, I had opportunities to develop my understanding of a range of pedagogical practices applied to foreign languages, such as quizzes to facilitate retrieval of previous knowledge. I believe that a focus on a teaching approach, which favors maximum communication and interaction in the target language, is the most effective way to ensure outstanding learning.
