My name is Mariana and I am a Portuguese native speaker.
I have a 4-year degree in Modern Languages and Literatures and a Masters by Research in Anglo-American studies. I teach Portuguese and English as foreign languages to students of all ages and levels, including children.
In my teaching approach, I value the formal specificities of the language by focusing on its grammar and internal structures. As a bilingual individual, I consider it to be of value to include a contrastive analysis approach in the acquisition of a second language. For students who wish to learn Portuguese or English for conversational purposes, mainly, I tailor my lesson plans to fit that specific purpose. I am also happy to include elements of the Portuguese culture in my lessons and discuss authors, poetry, food, or music.
I have provided private tuition services since 2008 and I have taught English language and literature at SIM University  (Singapore Institute of Management) in Singapore.  I have also taught Portuguese at INSEAD.
I currently work at the University of York.
I am based in the UK and I run my lessons through Zoom or Skype, mainly.
