Hi!

I am Maria. I am a PhD student at UCL (University College London), studying Chemistry.
I've tutored younger A level and undergraduate students for quite some time now and I enjoy sharing the information with others keen to learn.

I finished my undergraduate (bachelor and master's) as summa cum laude, so I have an excellent theoretical Chemistry background. And this is very fresh, since I graduated not long ago! Since I am currently completing my PhD, I am doing lab work every day and practicing chemistry all the time.

When I tutor, I prepare the lessons depending on the student's needs and preferences, maybe they want to focus on the concept, theory, filling in some gaps or prepare for an important exam/test/project. That's the prioity always.

I usually ask for the student to bring/show me any materials, books (if it's possible of course) they use at uni/school so I can familiarise and know exactly what and how they are studying a particular topic. I prepare my lessons based on that and the level of knowledge the student has. I prepare a few exercises to apply what we have discussed. I usually assign some homework (a few exercises which we will check together in the next /test/project.

I encourage asking questions during the lesson, free communication so I know if they understand the lesson, if I'm explaining clearly. I appreciate communicating any problems, issues, needs (if you have anxiety for example), so I can offer the optimal conditions for learning. Everyone has their own personal style.

I think teaching others is the best way to truly master your skills and knowledge in a specific field. So let's explore Chemistry together!
