I am interested in teaching English as a foreign language, and have educated a range of age groups from toddlers to adults. This means I have an understanding of the varied dynamics of teaching different audiences and can tailor lessons accordingly.

I prefer structured classes for students who are beginners or intermediate in English, following a PPP format (Presentation, Production, Practice). This ensures you will get the appropriate balance between teacher-led exposure to a new topic and opportunities to put what you have learned to use. For more advanced students, I prefer Guided Discovery methods. In Guided Discovery, I would be helping you take control of your studies rather than explicitly teaching everything. In other words, it's about active learning instead of passive learning!

But I can be flexible - I understand different students have different needs, ability levels and priorities. Just give me an overview of what you need to improve your English and I'll respond to that accordingly with my lesson planning and focus. Whether it's practising academic writing or conversational English, I am especially enthusiastic about supporting students with their ability to use language in realistic contexts. I'll always try to make sure you walk away from classes feeling like you've learned something practical.

Lastly, I am also interested in other projects including translation tasks and lesson planning assistance. I am willing to help with translations that require a combination of English and Portuguese or Spanish proficiency. I have translated various types of texts as part of my undergraduate studies, so while I don't have a specific qualification for this, I do have familiarity!

I offer one free trial lesson for Zoom; if you wish to continue with me, the rate will be £20 per hour. For other forms of support that don't involve direct Zoom tutoring (such as translations, email support, etc.) I charge £15 per project.
