I am a native Italian speaker and a qualified university lecturer with twenty years of teaching experience. I am an intuitive teacher, and I am a good listener. I learn about my pupils, their interests, their learning style, and their difficulties with the language. I then use this information to plan my lessons, provide opportunities to experience success, and build their confidence and independence as learners.
Ideally, I would recommend one 2-hour lesson per week to start with. This covers all four skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading). The exact structure is decided according to the needs and intended outcome of the pupil/ group. An indicative structure would be 30-45 min of speaking to start the lesson, then the remainder of our time split between grammar, reading/writing, translation, and correction of homework.
Laying a strong foundation for language acquisition is an investment of time and energy for all involved. Therefore, after a free 20 minutes consultation and the initial assessment (first lesson), I expect pupils to commit to working together weekly for a minimum of 3 months in order for us both to start seeing tangible results. Pupils can, however, withdraw at any time within the first two weeks if they choose to do so.
For those who need exam preparation and commit to a whole academic year, I will prepare a tailored scheme of work based on the exam boards AQA or Edexcel. Termly summative assessments and tutorials will be offered along our learning journey. There will also be lessons fully dedicated to mock exams and feedback.
