I have over 9 years experience of teaching in different capacities. I was a music teacher teaching instruments for 5 years, English as a Foreign Language Teacher for 6 summers and I have taught in both primary and secondary schools (mainly the Irish language). I understand what it is like to struggle with a subject and feel frustrated. With my experience I aim to break the subject into smaller tasks that seem more manageable for the student. I encourage trying and failing and trying again and there is no negativity in my lessons despite challenges that might arise.
My method of teaching is through exericises that allow the student to try and fail as many times as they need to. For language learning I aim to use tasks that can be transferred into real life situations. Learning by book is all well and good until you need to proactively use what you have learned in real time. As a recent learner of the German language myself I know what it’s like to get confused and feel overwhelmed with the vastness of one language. Where do I start, how do I piece sentences together, is my pronunciation correct? Together we will break these barriers slowly but surely making sure the basics are all where they need to be.
For music teaching, again we go nice and slow but making sure we are making progress weekly as well as learning techniques and scales it’s important to put it into practice and learn songs with the various learning stepping stones etched throughout.
