I provide the student with concise notes in the form of a Microsoft Word document before the lesson for them to review and familiarise themselves with the content. The first half of the lesson I explain the concept to the student, during which they can fully focus without stressing to make notes. This is because the notes provided explain each concept thoroughly. I make sure to make the lessons engaging, asking questions throughout to ensure the student is following. The final half of the lesson is hugely focused on past paper questions, which is integral to scoring highly in GCSE exams. Any confusions the student may have are also addressed during this period. Before the past papers are provided, I explain the approaches and techniques needed to approach each question. For example, certain questions worth 2 marks often have a standard textbook answer rather than requiring critical explanation of concepts. Students often make errors, wasting time on short answer questions and missing time to answer more crucial, long-answer questions. Therefore, they need guidance and the lessons I provide are dedicated to do so. The lesson finishes with some allocated homework, consisting of a few past paper questions, which may seem tough but is essential if they want to achieve grades such as 8s and 9s. I keep lessons light and try not to be too intense. I think students will feel comfortable asking questions, and I'm excited to start teaching!
