I've been tutoring English for almost 10 years now, and I can say I've met all types of students. I've taught both children and adults which allowed me to develop the ability to adapt to different teaching approaches and needs.
I love both the English language and literature, so I try my best to spread that love to my students as well. I love mistakes in my classroom because that's how we learn the best. Therefore, I insist on speaking from the very start. Since many students aren't a fan of grammar, I try to make it as interesting and interactive as possible, while giving many different examples so that they truly manage to get a grasp on it.
Depending on students' needs and goals, I choose different approaches. So students who want to improve their speaking will practice speaking during most of their lessons. At the end of the lesson, we discuss some major mistakes that they made, and after the lesson, I send them a handout with the explanation which will help them prevent making those mistakes again. I also think it is very important to correct a student as soon as he/she makes a mistake so that he doesn’t remember the wrong way of using that word or applying that rule.
For general English lessons or exam preparation, I use textbooks as a main source, complemented with articles, videos, movies, and additional exercises. I also use Word for exercises and handouts, PowerPoint for presentations, and Google Drive for sharing documents. When it comes to the platform, I usually use Skype or Google Classroom, because of the sharing screen option. However, if a student wants, we can use Google Hangouts too.
